Sorry about the delay folks. The GCWorld Minecraft Server has been updated to 1.2.5-R3 (or something like that).
Anyway, it’s good to go! I’ve been having a few issues with dynmap, but I think I’ll be able to handle those as updates roll on.

Well folks, you may have noticed that the server is down. I’m restoring everything from a backup taken 15 minutes before attempting the upgrade.
The upgrade was technically successful, but it broke the following bank of plugins…
Needless to say, I’m not upgrading… I’ll make a post when the server is back online. :)
Hey everyone, the server has been as updated as it can get. We’re still rocking Bukkit 1.1-R4, since R5 is buggy as hell and R6 won’t even launch. I have about a dozen plugin updates sitting in a folder till bukkit gets their act together and produces a valid build.
Anyway, a handful of plugins are up to date and running. Really not much to say since Bukkit made the announcement that they are now working for Mojang instead of Bukkit. Kudos to them for landing paying jobs doing what they like to do, but damn, what a loss to the community.
Thankfully, the fine folks at Spout are gearing up for the eventual full replacement of Bukkit. They have a bad ass server build up and running (not quite ready for prime time, but still awesome), and they’ve had the EPIC spoutcraft client out for a while now. If you’ve played on the server, you know how much I love spout and spoutcraft. :)
TL;DR: latest bukkit build blow, bukkit is slowly dying, spout is kicking more ass then ever, the server is going to stay as it is until either bukkit releases a non-shit JAR or spout finishes the spout server and the bukkit compat layer.
More to come in another post.
I reconfigured the new install of Dynmap and have set the new full renders in motion! It’ll probably be a few days before everything is done, but for now you can view the full renders of some of the smaller worlds at the new dynmap link along the top nav bar of the site!
I formally appologize to everyone that was playing tonight. Apparently dynmap had some serious issues (still unknown) and freaked out the server, crashing it. Since it was down, I figured now is as good a time as any to run all necessary updates, as well as install a new 1TB WD Black hard drive. I will be localizing Dynmap instead of offloading it to my small linux box, as it can’t handle the number of files very well anymore.
To put it gently, the current tileset is roughly 18.5 million files, at around 207GB of data. Yeah…
Anyway, we will be back up shortly.
Hey everyone, I have a lot for you today!
1) I stopped the world generation stopped at just under 5%, as it had close to 5.5 million records in the dynmap queue.
2) We have a new world, Epsilon!
3) 2 new dedicated members, TheDoctor850 and JediMasterJ! Hobblezilla and DemonLlama122 were also on for quite a while last night. AWESOME!
4) We have removed towny and have gone with Residence instead. Since there are not enough people to worry about towns and all of the BS associated with them, residence seems to be the way to go.
5) We have breached the 40GB of data mark (currently at 43.7GB)
Yay for activity!
AuthDB is up and running (and tested!) on the server. You can create a GCWorld Industries account in game, or create one on the site. Just be sure to use the same screen name as your MC name!
If you already have a GCWorld Industries account that has a different name, use the /link command to link your MC name to your GCWI name.
~GC Out!
I’ve analyzed all of the worlds and fixed several issues, but most of the extra worlds are a bit broken. Random chunk blocks around the spawn areas exploded in corruption, but beyond that, we’re golden!
Home World – Towny is up and rocking. There is a random monolith somewhere within a 1000 block radius of spawn point. Find it and get a prize!
GCWorld – expanded out to 1,000,000 blocks! YEAH BABY!
Rapture – Cleaned up more junk water blocks.
New cash code (money20123101) for $1000 in game cash.
Are you even reading these messages?
AuthDB integrated! You will most likely need to register here in order to do anything in the game.
Hey all. The server is currently down for backups and cleaning. I’m knocking out the old junk files from plugins past and am backing up the entire server into a super compressed 7zip archive. 7zip FTW!
I’ve also purged and re-created the git repository for the nightly backups. The downside of using git for minecraft is that it bloats rapidly due to the world files being binary files.
Anyway, the backup has been running for around 20 minutes now, and we’re at about 20% complete, so we have a while to go. Once it’s all done, I’ll have it back up and running as soon as git is done doing it’s thing.
Also, you may have noticed that the Dynmap is down. I updated it as well as purged all of the tiles! Yup, I’m going to rebuild all of the tiles using the new settings for better biomes. :)
Hey everyone! I’m on a party bus headed to Detroit for the Monster Jam show. Anyway, if you haven’t been on in a while, we’ve accumulated a couple of new worlds. Our latest greatest attraction is the underwater city of Rapture from Bioshock.
